I am so thankful for this opportunity. In my family, Reader's Digest is synonymous with good, quality reading material.
The first book that I am reviewing is
It is a complete honor to have been given this book and I feel that reading it has inspired me in so many ways to start this homeschool year off "on fire" and to keep my girls motivated all year!
I actually put post-its in certain areas that I want to read again.
I watched The Ron Clark Story several years ago and was completely blown away by how Ron Clark got through to kids, how he respected them and how he NEVER GAVE UP on them.
The dedication in this book says it all...
Ron Clark hopes that all of his students grow up to be the individual they have become.
The first chapter:
Teach Children to Believe in Themselves and Don't Destroy the Dream
says so much as well.
In the second chapter, Ron Clark goes on to explain the problems in public school today, how teachers pass kids along and what they could and should be doing differently. He explains how teachers are assessed. It was eye-opening to me.
Ron Clark's approach involves character and self-esteem building and preparing students to one day be contributing world citizens.
This book is a great resource for homeschool parents in that it leaves you inspired, reminds you of how your students view you, gives pointers and tips and ideas to get through in those times when you just don't seem to be making an impact (and are fantasizing about putting your kids on the yellow bus).
This book is also an excellent resource for public school parents because it explains how you can help your children to be an individual in school, inspire and encourage them to do their best and how to approach teachers and administrators in a school setting.
