An Awesome Memorial Day Weekend

We had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  On Friday afternoon, our next door neighbor came over with an American flag for us, as he does every year.  He is in his eighties and fought for our country in both World War II and Korea.  He loves to tell us stories about what it was like, the camaraderie among the soldiers, the fear, the sirens, the people.  My girls always listen with rapt awe, as I think they know we are very lucky and that there are lot of people in this world that experience a lot of different things and we should be very thankful for what we have.  Our neighbor always reminds us that we owe our freedom and our safety and our life to our soldiers, past, present and future.

P has dancing lessons on Friday afternoons, and when we got home from her lesson, as we pulled down our street, the neighborhood kids started running toward our house with water guns.  They blasted both girls as they got out of the car.  At first the girls weren't thrilled with the idea, but I started laughing and I guess they decided it was okay.  We couldn't leave the girls defenseless, so first thing Saturday morning, we went and bought them Super Soakers, which provided hours of fun all weekend long...

We enjoyed lots of yummy food...

 and ice cream cones....

and more Super Soaker time...
and choreographing special sisters routines...

and beer (for the grown-ups) that was from a brewery that was founded in 1366, Jason mentioned that was before Leonardo Da Vinci was born, which prompted a lot of discussion about who was born before 1366 (we came up with a lot of Biblical people and then did some internet searches to find more) and then who was born after 1366 (which was easy)...who knew beer could be the precursor to an unschooling experiencce?

and steamed clams...

and bubbles...

and grilled shrimp...

and grilled veggies...

and reading at the table ...

and grilled steak wrapped in bacon...

and played with the camera...

and making funny faces...
