Husbands, Dishwashers & Vacations....OH MY!

I love my husband.  He is a great guy.  He is fun and funny and a great dad and generous and caring and smart and always willing to go the extra mile for us.  We have grown together.  And we had an awesome, fantastic weekend.

But right now he is really annoying me.

You see, last night after we did the dinner dishes together (because he's great like that), we started the dishwasher.  But about 10 minutes later, we had pie and I opened the already running dishwasher and put the pie server in the dishwasher.  Then, I went down to the basement to throw in some laundary and noticed water dripping from the ceiling and realized it was from the dishwasher, so I frantically called Jason.

He shut off the dishwasher, noticed a puddle of water in front of it, and got out his new Snap-on light to check under the dishwasher.  By the time I got back to the kitchen, he had decided that we were not going on vacation and we were going to get a new dishwasher.

Now, our dishwasher is a freestanding dishwasher, and something we have discussed replacing with a regular dishwasher WHEN we re-do the kitchen.  We would have to extend the counter, which means getting new countertops, which means getting a new sink (I want the kind that is under the countertop), which means getting a new cooktop (several years ago, I dropped a Costco jar of pickles on the glass cooktop and there is a crack in it, though it doesn't affect any of the burners and it still works fine; it would be expensive to repair and since re-doing the countertop is on our list, we have been putting off replacing the cooktop).  Jason wants to use our vacation money to re-do the kitchen.  We are really practical, thrifty people and I understand the practicality and sense that using the money we would have spent on vacation on a new kitchen...but...

We just bought all new windows this year (which were not a priority, but we figured since we get the energy credit, we might as well do it this year instead of putting it off).  And I really want to go on vacation.

There will ALWAYS be something to do around the house, but going on family vacations and having our kids experience the world beyond the house is important too!

To finish the part about the dishwasher...after we cleaned up the water, we turned it back on and it was fine.  It must have been because I opened the door mid-cycle.  However, now Jason is concerned because there is a white film on our glasses that won't come off and sometimes there is a grit on our glasses and he thinks we are ingesting something that will kill us and we need a new dishwasher PRONTO!  I believe the film is etch, which caused by hard water (we have a well), soap and the heat drying in the dishwasher.  I am still researching the grit.
