We had been studying Ancient Rome in history.
I was chatting with a friend who also homeschools her girls,
and she mentioned that they were going to see Julius Caesar.
I knew we would soon be studying his life.
I procured 4 tickets for last Saturday's performance.
Last Saturday morning,
over breakfast,
we read about Caesar's life.
Over lunch, we read the wonderful study guide provided by the State Shakespeare Theatre,
we did the exercises provided
and read the synopsis of the play.
The girls were very excited.
We <3 performances of any kind!
I didn't bring my camera in,
but snuck a photo of the set with my phone ;-)
I abide the rules and don't snap shots during the performance,
but I am a blogger...so....
I did take a shot of the finale.
After the show,
the cast & director
sat down for a {marvelous} Q & A.
It gave us insight into
acting,
theatre,
traveling troupes,
Shakespeare,
Julius Caesar.
We learned a lot about Shakespeare.
So much in fact that the girls have prepared a little quiz
for my brother,
who is a scholar of Modern English Literature;
they will be quizzing him on Easter Sunday ;-)
We had reservations for dinner.
But we ended up with a little time.
We found the most
{Awesome}
vintage clothing shop.
We <3 vintage stuff ;-)
Even the
Dude we call Dad
<3s vintage stuff!!
Then we were off to our restaurant.
If you have been around here before,
you know that the hubs & I are
foodies.
I'm not embarrassed.
It's true.
Food is our thing.
One of them anyway.
Jason, foodie extraordinaire, way more a foodie than I, had heard of this place several years ago and he had been salivating ever since.
You see
EVERY.SINGLE. ITEM.
on the menu
contains
GARLIC!
We also <3 garlic!
To start you off,
they bring you rich, warm, yeasty bread
and roasted garlic cloves
AND
the
MOST
AWESOME
INCREDIBLE
FABULOUS
bread topping
that I have ever had!
(We eat out often and I NEVER eat the bread--a girl has to at least attempt to protect her figure!)
But I could not resist...
garlic,
olive oil
basil
and parmesan.
Simple food is always the best.
This photo does not do it justice.
But, fear not, family, we are bringing some for Easter!
The appetizers had us licking our lips.
(I also normally do not eat appetizers, unless I order them as MY MEAL).
But we could not resist
Brie en croute
with apples & grapes
and roasted garlic cloves!
YUM!
We also ordered
AND
we ALL ate
(I am sooooooo proud of my girls here!)
escargot!
(Jason & I have eaten escargot before, but this was the girls first time; they thought it tasted like portobello mushrooms. It's very earthy and the consistency is very similar to mushrooms).
P still gets chicken fingers.
The potatoes, however, that came with the chicken fingers at this place...
were tres magnifique!
Jason had the chicken asiago with
roasted garlic mashed potatoes.
He enjoyed it.
The girls got to pick a dessert,
since they tried the escargot
(I am not above bribing--and hey,
the girls said the escargot was their favorite part of the meal!)
They picked red velvet cake
(you do know how they get that color, don't you?)
And
then
the
piece de resistance.
The
moment
I
was
waiting
for
ALL
DAY...
GARLIC ICE CREAM!
It was EXCELLENT!!!!!
