This afternoon we made our first batch of Mystery Bars and I posted some photos on Instagram. For all of you who asked....here is the recipe...
This is mybiggest weakness, I can easily eat a batch in an afternoon family's favorite cookie!
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
40 saltines
2 cups chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, almonds, pistachios or peanuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350. Boil butter and brown sugar for 3 minutes. Arrange 40 crackers (not overlapping) on a cookie sheet. Spread butter and sugar over crackers. don't worry if it doesn't cover all crackers. Bake at 350 for 5 minutes. Take out of oven and immediately top with chips. Wait for chips to melt, spread them out. Refrigerate.
NOW THIS IS THE HARD PART. Wait for it to get hard. About 2 hours. Then break them up or cut them. We break them. We like the imperfect jagged edges. We usually end up eating the first batch within a day!
