Historical Documents in Translation

We discovered this book series while studying the Civil War this year.

Each book contains the actual written text and a line-by-line translation that kids will understand of the text.  These books give examples of why these documents are important, how they impact the day-to-day life of Americans and how they make America different from other countries, all in language that is easily understood by children.

These books have opened up dialogue between the girls and I about what it means to be an American.

These books also highlight how the document has impacted history, times in which the document was tested, laws that are in effect as a direct result of the document and the historical impact of the document.

We have learned SO much from this book series!
